My fight is so very lonely. Grew up Catholic, drifted away, moved far away from my family, married my wife who I love so very much but has no religious background or real desire for God, had a child, came back to the faith.
Trying to now to build a strong relationship with God and raise my child Catholic with minimal external support in a world that is constantly trying to push both her and I in another direction. It is a lonely, difficult fight that can feel so thankless sometimes. I’ve kept going for three years though.
Sometimes I have doubted God, asking why he allowed me to miss a vocation and wishing I was living an ascetic life in a monastery somewhere. But reading your work helped me reaffirm that God has placed me in this postion and that fatherhood is my vocation, my framework to carry my cross every day. There have been days when your writings are really the only thing to keep me going, to remind me that I am not alone amid spiritual and physical exhaustion. Thank you.
Brother, this was something to read. We have such similar backgrounds. You’re not alone and your witness gives me the fuel to keep writing. Thank you for this gift. You’re not alone and I’ll keep doing this work for the ones like you and me who need it the most.
Thank you so much for doing what you do.
